Prop Ideas to Bring to Your Branding Photo Shoot
Have you ever taken a look at a professional photograph or just the background of a TV show and thought about how every single item there was curated and placed there for a specific purpose? The same thing happens in branding photography: I style every scene in every photo shoot in particular ways to create a look that embodies your brand and your professional image.
When you book with Jaimié Birtel Photography, you and I will meet directly to plan how to create that look. In the meantime, here are a few types of props you might consider bringing to your session.
A Laptop
This is one of the most common props in branding photos because so many of my clients use laptops in their work. Your branding photo shoot will incorporate a variety of looks and images for your brand, including traditional headshots, but also some “behind the scenes” type of photos that show you in action, doing what you do best. If you spend much of your day on your laptop, this prop is essential for these types of photos.
On-the-Job Tools
Along with a laptop, it’s helpful to bring other tools or items you use in your business as well. This can include, for example, clipboards, a camera, a headset, makeup brushes, a sketch pad, a stethoscope, and so on. During your planning meeting, you and I will discuss what some of these items can be for your particular business.
Your Favorite Mug
Have you ever noticed how many photos you see, like apparel modeling photos, where the person is holding a cup of coffee? This simple prop can create a cozy, natural and inviting look, and it can also be a helpful tool if you struggle to know what to do with your hands. It’s especially helpful if you want to give your brand a warm and welcoming look, such as if you’re a therapist who wants to look like you’re settled in with hot tea and ready to listen.
A Selection of Products You Sell
If your business sells products, these will be essential props for you to bring. You can keep the selection reasonable, but having some products is a fantastic way to create branded images with your logo and packaging featured, and it gives people an immediate look at what your business offers.
Branded Items
Along with your products themselves, you can bring other items that are branded with your company logo. This could include branded retail bags, mugs, pens, and so on. Sprinkling in a few items like this can just add to your brand’s cohesive look.
Other Items You Associate with Your Brand
Take a look around your workspace or your home and see if there are any items that have a similar look and feel to your brand. For instance, if your brand has a homey and zen feel, you might bring a candle, or maybe you have a few pieces of desk decor that are well-aligned with your brand. It never hurts to bring them along and see if they’ll add to the scene.
