Nontraditional Ideas for Your Senior Photos
If you have a teenager who’s nearing their senior year (or you are a teenager nearing your senior year), you’ve probably had senior photos in the back of your mind for a while and have seen family and friends posting senior pictures on social media. While you might love all their photos, a lot of senior photo shoots can run together and look very similar, and you want your teen to have something truly unique that reflects the one-of-a-kind person they are.
I hear you and I’m here to help! As a senior and family photographer, I emphasize individuality and I customize every client’s photo shoot exclusively for them. Within that customization, some clients want something really unique that they haven’t seen any of their classmates have before. If you’re looking for a little something special, here are some nontraditional ideas for your senior photos.
Highlighting Non-School Hobbies
You see senior photos all the time of athletes in their jerseys, or of seniors showcasing their band instruments or other school activities. These are a great way to memorialize a snapshot of how you spend your days at this time in your life, but non-school hobbies and interests are just as much a part of who you are! Why not incorporate those into your senior portraits?
Is your child a cinephile? Let’s take some photos of them gearing up for a movie night. Love crafting? Bring in their yarn collection and knitting needles. Sneakerhead? Let’s show off a few prized pieces from their collection.
Incorporate a Beloved Pet
Some teenagers have such a special bond with their family pet, especially if it’s a pet that they grew up with or that they had a hand in raising. Pets don’t live forever, and someday your teenager might be so glad to have their furry friend in their senior photos.
Keep in mind, of course, that this works better with some pets than others and that it’s not necessarily an option in all circumstances. If you’re interested in this, mention it in your planning consultation and we’ll talk about whether it might work in your case.
Book a Winter Photo Shoot
Most senior photos are taken in the spring or summer, sometimes in the early fall. Portraits in fields of flowers or lush green parks are popular because, of course, they’re beautiful. But if your teenager wants something a little different or if that aesthetic just isn’t their style, you might consider planning a winter photo shoot instead. Changing the season can change the look of their senior photos entirely and if they love the holidays or the winter, this could be a great way to make their photo shoot a true representation of what they enjoy.
