How to Choose a Location for Your Branding Photos

Branding photography can be a fantastic boon to your business, and part of my expertise as a photographer is designing a photo session for you that will effortlessly create the look you want for yourself and your business. When you and I are planning your branding photo shoot together, one of the first decisions we’ll make is where to have your photo shoot, so take a look at these tips for finding the right location for your photos.

Weigh the Pros and Cons of Your Workplace

One of the most popular choices for branding photography is to take the photos directly at your workplace. This can be the most natural and organic place to take your headshots and branding photos because you’re right where all the action happens. But is your office suitable for professional photography?

This will depend on factors like:

  • The lighting

  • Whether your workplace is designed with the aesthetics of your brand

  • Whether there’s enough space to use photography equipment safely

  • Whether the environment is conducive to you feeling your best and getting into the right mindset for a great photo shoot, or whether you’d be distracted by the hustle and bustle around us

We’ll talk through all of these pros and cons in your consultation. If your office isn’t the right fit, don’t worry! There are always other options.

Choose a Location That Suits Your Brand

A key goal of your branding photography is to create images that clearly communicate your brand, so of course, the location we choose for your photo shoot needs to match the aesthetics of your brand.

Does your brand align more with a lighthearted, bright outdoor setting or somewhere with a more formal or vintage look? Or maybe it’s a more edgy urban aesthetic. Your workplace might be designed to closely align with your brand, or it might not, so you and I can brainstorm together to find out what setting is best for your brand.

Don’t Forget Practicality

As you’re weighing location options or coming up with ideas, the aesthetics might come first, but make sure you consider whether a location is practical for a photo shoot, too. For example, you might know of a beautiful place in a local park that you pass through on your morning jogs, but if it’s a very high-traffic area or if there’s not much space to work with, it might not be ideal. The same goes for an urban sidewalk that has a perfect background for you, but gets too much foot traffic to work around.

When in Doubt, My Studio Can Be Anything!

If all of your location ideas seem to be coming up short, don’t worry! There’s always my photography studio, which has already been the perfect solution for so many of my branding photography clients. I can customize many different looks and settings in my Mercer Island photography studio, tweaking the lighting, background, props, and other aspects to design exactly the look you want.
