For the Gents: Tips for Boys’ Senior Photos
It’s senior photo season! A senior photo shoot can be such a different experience for guys and girls, and as a Seattle area senior photographer, I have plenty of experience taking portraits for seniors of all genders. But this blog is for the guys - let’s talk about a few tips to make your senior photo shoot go off without a hitch.
First Things First: Be Yourself!
Your senior photo shoot is all about freezing this moment in time and having a lifelong reminder of who you were at this incredible time of transition in your life. So embrace it! Think about what makes you you and what’s important to you at this time in life. That includes what activities and hobbies you might want to highlight in your photo shoot, what visual styles and looks reflect your personality, and what outfits look great but also feel authentic to you.
Take Advantage of Wardrobe Styling
I know that not all young guys like to talk about clothes and fashion, but what you wear for your senior photos makes a difference and I can help! As a professional senior photographer, I’ll consult with you and your parents and help you make a plan for what to wear so that after our consultation, you’ll be all set.
Plan Ahead for a Haircut and Skin Care
You want to look your best for your senior photos, and your skin health and your haircut are big parts of this. When it comes to your hair, you want your cut to be fresh but not too fresh. Plan for a haircut about a week before your session so that it has time to settle in, and so that you can make changes if you don’t like how it looks.
When it comes to skin care, be especially diligent about your routine for the month or so before your photo shoot. This can make such a difference, especially if you have acne like a lot of teens do. With that being said, there’s always a risk of an unfortunately timed breakout, so if that happens, don’t worry. I can take care of it with some editing.
Relax and Let Me Do the Hard Work
Having photos taken might be outside of your comfort zone, and a lot of guys are worried that they don’t know how to pose or how to look good in photos. Fortunately, you have a photographer for that. During your session, just relax and let me guide you. I’ll give you detailed posing instructions and help you along the way so your photos will turn out looking like you’re a seasoned pro.
