Can You Take Branding Photos Outside?

Outdoor photography is a popular choice for so many types of photo shoots - senior photos, family portraits, maternity photos, and more. But one type of photo shoot that you don’t see outdoors as often is branding photography. Why is that? Is outdoor branding photography an option, or is indoor photography the way to go?

Where Are Branding Photos Usually Taken?

As a branding photographer in the Seattle area, most of my shoots for these photos do take place indoors. The setting, though, depends on my client and the types of branding photos we’re trying to create.

In some cases, the best option is my Mercer Island photography studio. Here, I can set it up exactly the way we want it to appear, in a way that embodies and fosters your brand. I have plenty of props we can use to design the perfect custom setting for your photos.

For other clients, though, their place of business might be the best place for their branding photos. If you have a well-established office or shop that’s designed in a way that aligns with your brand, and if it has lighting and space that’s suitable for a photo session, this can be a fantastic way to showcase your brand from right in your element.

Can You Take Branding Photos Outdoors?

While most branding photo shoots are indoors, I can absolutely do an outdoor branding photo shoot too! It’s simply a question of what is the best fit for your business and your brand. Many of my clients want an image that’s more traditionally professional, which does lend itself to indoor portraits. But if outdoor photography is a better fit for your brand, this is certainly an option.

That could be the case if, for example:

  • Your business works outdoors or focuses on the outdoors, such as landscaping, farming, or pool management. Even if you’re in real estate, some photos in an aesthetic neighborhood can be great for your branding.

  • An outdoor aesthetic aligns well with your brand. For instance, if you’d describe your brand as natural, organic, holistic, or wellness-focused, the look of outdoor photography could fit your brand beautifully.

  • There’s a particular outdoor setting that is a key focus for your brand. For example, maybe your business is property management for a particular skyscraper or office complex. In that case, photos in front of and around that property could be perfect for you.
