Capturing All the Seasons in Your Branding Photos
Your branding photography should be a staple of your business’s marketing. After one photo shoot, you should have an abundance of custom branding photos and headshots that you can use in all of your marketing for the next year or two until it’s time for a refresher. But there’s a common mistake a lot of professionals make in planning their branding photos: they only think about the shots they need at the moment, not the shots they’ll want in the coming months. Then, a while down the line, they kick themselves thinking, “I can’t believe I have all these photos, but none of them are right for this campaign.”
So, how do you make sure that you have branding photos that fit every season? Here are a few considerations you’ll want to keep in mind when planning your branding photo shoot.
Choose a Wardrobe for Headshots That Are Usable All Year Round
There’s no rule that says that your headshot has to look seasonally appropriate in every situation. Still, if you’re putting out an ad in the middle of summer and you’re wearing a sweater in your headshot, it might strike you (and your customers) as looking a tad out of place. To make sure you always have the perfect headshot for the occasion, you can either wear a seasonally neutral outfit like a suit or blazer, or you can wear a few different outfits in your photo shoot.
Get Prepared for Seasonal Advertising
It’s almost that time of the year already when everything will be decked out in the colors and aesthetics of the winter holidays. If you want to get in on that festive action, you can have seasonally appropriate branding photos ready to go by incorporating a few seasonal looks into your branding photo shoot. This doesn’t have to just include the winter holidays, it can include other holidays you might want to highlight in the year as well.
Avoid Hypertrendy Styles
Experimenting with short-lived trends can be a lot of fun when it comes to your wardrobe, your makeup, and other aspects of your personal style. But, as we can all agree when we find old photos of ourselves from a few years (or more) ago, a lot of trends that are popular at the time feel downright funky when the trend fades.
If your branding headshots are sporting a trend that was only popular for one brief period of time, they’ll start looking out of date in a hurry - even within a few months or a year of your photo shoot. You want your branding photos to make a great impression for months or years, so make sure that when you’re getting ready for your photo shoot, your style is timeless and enduring.
