Boudoir Photography Isn’t What You Think It Is

When you think of boudoir photography, you probably think of highly sexual photos that might look like something out of Playboy, featuring skimpy lingerie and looks of seduction. And sure, that’s what some boudoir portraits (but not all) look like on the surface. But that’s not what boudoir photography is all about.

As a professional photographer who specializes in honoring women’s stories, from maternity photography and the motherhood journey to boudoir photography, I’ve seen firsthand what an enriching and invigorating experience these photo shoots are. That’s why I want to spread the word about some boudoir misconceptions and about what these photo shoots are actually like.

Boudoir Photography Isn’t

…an uncomfortable experience when you feel exposed or pressured

…an experience that’s only for women who are confident in their bodies or whose bodies match conventional beauty standards

…risque photos for your significant other or to spice up your dating app profile (this can be a perk if you’d like it to be, but that’s not the main goal)

Boudoir Photography Is

…an uplifting and empowering experience where you’re in control

…an opportunity to see the beauty in your body and build your confidence

…a gift from you to you

…an experience that can enrich absolutely every woman!

As women, there are so many things in life that can take away our joy and appreciation for ourselves and our beauty. Maybe your body has changed in recent years in a way that you haven’t been able to appreciate. Maybe you’ve been through a lot of sacrifices and experiences that made you feel like you don’t know yourself as well as you used to. Maybe you just don’t feel great about yourself because, well, society and media tell us not to.

The purpose of boudoir photography is to celebrate you and to help you rediscover your confidence and your beauty. For the women who come through my studio, this photoshoot is an opportunity to see themselves through a lens of beauty and strength, to remind them of who they are not as a mom or as a wife or as a professional but as an amazing human being. That is what boudoir photography is all about - it’s so much more than sexy photos.

The experience of boudoir photography can benefit any woman, including you! To find out for yourself, reach out and let’s chat or book your photo session. You’re worth it!
