What to Wear for Spring Family Photos
Spring is all about renewal and starting fresh, so why not take advantage of this spring’s beautiful weather to refresh your family portraits? A spring photo shoot in Seattle is a stunning way to create lifelong memories and custom artwork for your family. Not sure what to wear and how to dress your family for spring portraits? Check out these tips.
Go for Flow
This one’s for moms and daughters in particular - embrace a great flowy dress! These airy dresses look absolutely incredible in the sunlight and the breeze in springtime, and they’re beautiful on practically any body type and silhouette.
Lean Into Neutrals, Earth Tones, Pastels, and Muted Tones
When it comes to a color scheme for your family’s photo shoot outfits, there are some general categories that are great for spring. Neutrals, earth tones, and muted tones are perfect, and so are pastels. These color ranges look fabulous against the bright flowers and greenery of spring.
I recommend choosing a palette of 3 to 4 colors so you can choose your family’s outfits within that palette - this way, you have some visual variety but everyone’s outfits coordinate well.
Don’t stress about choosing your color palette or your family’s outfits - I can help! For all of my clients, my planning and consultation process involves professional styling and working with you to get your family’s outfits sorted out.
Bring Layers to Add
Layers are great for any photo session because they can add some texture and dimension to your portraits, and they give us some variety to work with in terms of looks and colors. Plus, they’re always handy if that spring breeze picks up and it gets a little chilly.
For spring photos, a denim jacket can be a great addition, as can a linen jacket, a light cardigan, or a shawl.
Dress for Movement
During my family photo sessions, I’ll guide your posing at times but I also like to take some time to just let your family enjoy the park, the beach, or wherever it is that we’re photographing while I take candid shots of your family having fun. These are often families’ favorite photos because they’re so authentic and lighthearted.
Keep this in mind when choosing your photo shoot outfits. Wear something you’re comfortable moving around in, not something that might look amazing at certain angles but not great at others, or something you have to constantly adjust to make sure it lays properly. Again, this is something I’ll help you think about and plan for while we’re planning your family’s outfits.
